How Do You Get the Blue Gem in Crash Bandicoot 2

In Crash Bandicoot 2, you can collect Gems alongside of the Crystals you find to complete the game. However, collecting Gems will allow you to get a different ending to the story, the true ending. Finding the Gems is done similarly to the previous game, where you have to destroy every box in a level to find the gem at the end.

There are a total of 37 White Gems that you can obtain while completing each level, by both destroying every box in the level and discovering them while taking secret paths. Be sure to read our description of the Death Routes when you're looking for all of the Gems.

Colored Gems

Much like the previous game, there are a number of special Colored Gems that you can find and use to gain access to new areas. Unlike in the previous game however, you can find colored gems within a level, sometimes on alternate or secret paths you wouldn't normally take.

Here is a listing of every Colored Gem location and the criteria for finding them in their respective levels.

COLORED GEM LOCATIONS
Blue Gem
Finish Turtle Woods without breaking any boxes (not even one box can be broken)
Red Gem
Complete the secret route of Snow Go using the secret portal found in Air Crash. (Can also be obtained from the main path of Snow Go using a glitched jump)
Green Gem
Complete the secret route in The Eel Deal behind the Fake Wall near the group of Nitro boxes
Yellow Gem
Reach the end of Plant Food before the timer runs out
Purple Gem
Enter a secret route in Bee-Having atop of a group of Fake Nitro Box stairs.

Blue Gem Location

When you enter into the first level Turtle Woods, complete the entire elevl without breaking any of the boxes. You can't break even one (not even the checkpoint boxes). You'll find the Blue Gem at the end of the stage before you warp back to the Warp Room.

Red Gem

Go to the level Air Crash and take the secret warp route. You can get to it via jumping onto the boxes instead of using the boat. You'll immediately warp to a new area of Snow Go. Go through the area and you'll reach a spot where you'll drop down and pick up the Red Gem. Complete Snow Go like normal afterwards to keep the Red Gem.

Green Gem

There is a fake wall that you can walk right through in the level The Eel Deal. You'll notice the wall near a group of Nitro Boxes on the right path. The Green Gem is at the end of the hallway.

Yellow Gem

When you enter the level Plant Food, you'll notice a timer on the bottom of the screen. If you reach the end of the level before it runs out, you'll find the Yellow Gem at the end of the stage.

Purple Gem

In the level Bee-Having, you'll come across a group of Nitro boxes that don't hop like other Nitro Boxes. You can actually jump atop these boxes and be warped to a new area. You'll find the Purple Gem part of the way through the stage, just finish the level normally after you obtain it.

Here are the Gem Paths in each level that open up when you find the corresponding colored gems.

COLORED GEM PATH
Blue Gem
Opens gem paths for both Hang Eight and in Spaced Out (multicolored gem path)
Red Gem
Opens gem path for Snow Biz and Spaced Out (multicolored gem path)
Green Gem
Opens gem path for both Ruination and Spaced Out (multicolored gem path)
Yellow Gem
Opens gem path for Sewer or Later and Spaced Out (multicolored gem path)
Purple Gem
Opens up the multicolored gem path for Spaced Out

Death Routes

Occassionally you'll find a platform on the ground known as a Death Route. You'll notice this the skull & crossbones on it to signify it as a Death Route. These platforms can only be used if you've reached them without dying in the level, not even once.

Death Routes are incredibly challenging areas, with tough platforming and many dangers. These routes are necessary to find more boxes within a level, as well as reach new paths that allow you to discover more gems. Some colored Gems require you to complete Death Routes in order to obtain them.
